BROTHERS IN BLUE: MAX (Brothers in Blue #1) by Jeanne St. James is a HOT contemporary romance read that introduces the reader to a rich, immature party girl that has her whole life turned upside down and a small town cop, who is an ex-Marine and all Alpha.

Amanda Barber is a young, rich girl partying all over Miami with her friends and no responsibilities. Suddenly, she has to move to small town PA to live in her dead father and stepmother’s home to care for her 22 year old special needs half-brother and his dog. She has never met Greg and Chaos due the messy divorce of her parents and has no idea how to deal with him or his needs.

I did not like Amanda at first, but as the story progresses and you see how she is trying to learn to help Greg and stand on her own two feet for a change, she pulled me to her side. You learn her backstory slowly, and like me, the small town folk did not care for Amanda at first either. She makes mistakes, but you also watch her mature quickly. She wants to go back to her old life at first, but things conspire to make her want to stay more and more as the story progresses.

Max Bryson is a third generation police officer in his hometown and the oldest of three Bryson boys. When he first runs into Amanda, he has trouble believing such an immature girl has been assigned the care of Greg, but even as her attitude chafes, he finds her extremely hot. The back and forth between these two was extremely well written. You can see in each encounter the strength in Amanda continues to grow as she stands up to him and takes control her own life and Greg’s. How much Max’s attitude changes towards Amanda is also realistically written. The emotional growth of both Amanda and Max is what makes this an engaging romance.

It was great getting to know all the secondary characters in this story, also. Max’s loving and stable parents and his teasing younger brothers. Not so nice, but necessary to understand Amanda were her mother and ex-boyfriend from Miami. I am looking forward to reading Marc’s story next.

Please Note: Although this is a small town love story it does contain many explicit sex scenes throughout the story. They are well written, integrated into the story and very, very hot!

Another HOT book about a Bryson brother from Manning Grove!

BROTHERS IN BLUE: MARC (Brothers in Blue #2) by Jeanne St. James has the second Bryson brother having to train the new police recruit who just happens to be female. For an alpha male like Marc, who also happens to still believe there should not be any female officers, being made her FTO (field training officer) by his brother the chief seems like a sick joke.

Leah Grant is determined to be a police officer just like her deceased father. She has fought all the stereotypes and risen to the top of her training class to have no one, but Max offer her a job. Manning Grove is very small town to her old home of Philly, but she is determined to make it, even with the chauvinist beliefs of her FTO.

As Marc and Leah train and ride together, their chemistry starts to override their common sense. They try to keep their work life separate from their increasing attraction, but Marc wants her in his bed as much as Leah wants to prove she is as capable as any male officer. The taboo of trainer and trainee does not stop these two, but they do keep it out of work hours.

These two have explosive chemistry in bed and are so perfect for each other. There are explicit sex scenes that are well written and have a surprising appearance of nipple rings and other sex toys. I also loved that Leah stayed at Marc’s parents’ house when she moved to town so that we continue to be involved with the whole family from Max’s story in Book #1. This romance can be read as a standalone because of its own HEA, but the family ties and small town life carry over.

I love that Ms. St. James has made each of these books in this series unique so far. I appreciate that they are not both the same premise with new names inserted. I am looking forward to what happens with the last Bryson boy, if he ever comes home!

What a great addition and emotionally charged finale to the Bryson brother trilogy of books!

BROTHERS IN BLUE: MATT (Brothers In Blue #3) by Jeanne St. James has the youngest Bryson finally returning home after several deployments overseas to a job and extended family that he is finding very difficult to deal with due to PTSD.

Matt Bryson believes his mind is broken. He is not ready to accept help except what is forced on him by his brother to keep his job as a police office in their small town. He has buried his emotions and is barely making it day to day.

Dr. Carly Stephens is Amanda’s obstetrician at the local hospital. She is tall, calm and extremely professional working hard to help her elderly parents and save money to adopt a baby of her own one day that she cannot have herself. When Matt ends up being the brother to rush Amanda to the hospital to deliver, he is attracted to Carly’s calm and leadership. Carly is attracted to the hot police office.

They start out as landlord and tenant, but soon agree to a sexual, no commitment relationship. They are just too different and want different things out of life. Matt with his OCD and PTSD believes he will never be able to love and he never wants children. Carly is too busy earning and saving money for her future home and adoption and just wants the hot sex. But can they truly keep to this arrangement? Hot, steamy sex is great, but soon emotions become entangled and they will have to find a way to compromise or break.

Matt had me all tied up in knots emotionally. There are many forms and degrees of PTSD and I feel Ms. St. James handled Matt’s character responses in a realistic way. I especially agree with the way that Matt had to handle a lot of his decisions on his own and in his own time. Carly was an equally strong character because even though she is a doctor, she knows she can’t heal Matt, she can only love and help him. The plot was a delicate back and forth written with empathy and compassion.

It was great reading about all the characters from the previous two books, also. I am going to miss these brothers, the loves they found and the entire extended family. This is an excellent contemporary romance series with plenty of hot and steamy sex scenes. They can all be read as standalones, but is much more fun to read them all in order and get three HEAs.

Book Review: Duric: A Science Fiction Romance by Athena Storm

RATING: 3 out of 5 Stars

Occasionally, I enjoy reading a sci-fi romance book just for the fun and simply campy enjoyment of the world-building and the explicit sex scenes. DURIC: A Science Fiction Romance (Trident Alliance Mail Order Brides Book 2) by Athena Storm is one of those stories.

Daphne Moebius is a member of the Interstellar Human Confederation. The ship she is travelling on is attacked and destroyed by an Odex assault ship. She is the only survivor and is rescued by a Vakutan warrior.

Duric is a seven-foot tall, alpha Vakutan warrior whose ship attempts to help the ship under attack. After his rescue of the only surviving human, his ship is also damaged beyond repair. He directs his crew to set for a crash landing on the closest moon of Aenexia that supports human life. After the crash landing, Duric and Dapne are the sole survivors.

The enemy ship has also been damaged beyond repair and crash lands on the same moon. Duric and Daphe travel to get as far away as they can, but is it enough if their enemies from the Ataxia Coalition have survived? Stranded together the pair has to learn to work together to survive and in the process discover their feelings for each other are more than they expect.

I enjoyed this quick sci-fi romance book. It is the second Mail Order Bride book in a four book series that stands on its own. The world-building was well done and put me in the fantasy world, but I did not read how this was a mail order bride story. There were also a few typos that should have been caught in editing before publication that threw me out of the fantasy in a few crucial places. The sex scenes were explicit, erotic and steamin’ hot, but also at times some word choices and phrases were campy and not what I would usually find in a current romance. That said, it was still a fun, sexy and entertaining quick read and just the escapism I was looking for.

Thanks very much to Booksprout for this eARC for review.

Book Review: Wicked Envy by Sawyer Bennett

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

WICKED ENVY (The Wicked Horse Vegas, #3) by Sawyer Bennett should be read using oven mitts! This is a menage-between-friends scorcher with a sizzling romance story and the extra benefit of mind-blowing sex throughout. This is definitely a keeper to read over and over on cold winter nights, or rainy spring nights, or in an air-conditioned summer bedroom at night, or on a crisp fall night with a cool breeze blowing in the windows.

Dane Hawthorne is a brilliant entrepreneur. After being raised in the foster care system, he starts his own biotech company that is worth millions and is on the brink of an invention that will change medical testing forever. In college, he met his two best friends, Avril and Andrew. The three are inseparable. Dane brings Avril into his company as the CFO and Andrew as the head of scientific development. Seventeen years after meeting, with all of life’s ups and downs, they are still together.

Avril Carrigan walks in on her finance with another woman in their bed. After listening in on Dane, who is a long time member at The Wicked Horse trying to get Andrew to the club, Avril decides that that is just what she needs to get over her anger and hurt. She wants to let loose and The Wicked Horse sounds like the perfect place.

As the three experience the debauchery at The Wicked Horse individually, they soon realize they want to experience it with each other, but that is crossing a huge line that could affect their long standing friendships forever.

I love that this story is told in all three POVs because each friend brings a different personal reality to the relationship. The friends have a strong bond that changes and matures as the sexual and romantic relationships grow. Ms. Bennett surprised me with the two that become a romantic couple. She handled the other friend’s leaving the sexual menage with compassion and wisdom on his part. The sex in this book is explicit, kinky and frank. This is my favorite Wicked Horse Vegas book to date and I am looking forward to many more.

Book Review: Wicked Wish by Sawyer Bennett

RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars

WICKED WISH (The Wicked Horse Vegas, #2) by Sawyer Bennett is a brother’s-best-friend contemporary erotic romance which is a little light on romantic plot, but heavy on sexual interaction and content. Ms. Bennett pushes me outside of my comfort zone and yet I am always pulled into her stories from the start.

Jorinda “Jori” Pearce is thrown out of her home and told by her husband that she is lacking in the bedroom. Jori returns to her hometown and her best friend, Elena to lick her wounds and re-evaluate her life. Elena and Jori decide a trip to The Wicked Horse for their masquerade night is just what Jori needs.

Walsh Brooks has it all. He owns a profitable casino, he is gorgeous and has his pick of any woman he wants. During the masquerade, Walsh sees a beauty with a feathered headdress that he wants to ride on a new machine in the club designed by his best friend, Micah. The experience is more than either could hope for until Walsh sees two scars on his feathered mystery woman.

Walsh is having the experience of his life with his best friend’s little sister. Though both have years of shared experiences, sex has always been considered off limits. Their secret relationship can only end in heartbreak or can it be more?

The writing and pacing are well done. This story does have explicit sex scenes which will make you squirm in your seat, especially the scenes with the mechanical machine in the club. I loved Walsh, but I felt Jori had little to no backbone. I prefer my heroines to stand up for themselves far more than happened in this story.

A hot button issue for some will be the fact that Jori is still married and not to the hero, even though her husband threw her out of their home. I do not mind that she was not divorced, HE THREW HER OUT, but I do wish she would not have made some of the relationship decisions she did with her ex.

A steamy addition to The Wicked Horse Vegas series!

Book Review: Wicked Favor by Sawyer Bennett

RATING: 3 out of 5 Stars

WICKED FAVOR (The Wicked Horse Vegas, #1) by Sawyer Bennett is the start of a new Wicked Horse series set in Las Vegas. This is an erotic contemporary romance series with explicit sex scenes including fetishes and multiple sexual partners.

Jerico Jameson owns both The Wicked Horse, an elite sex club and the Jameson Group, a private security company that does contract work for the CIA. Jerico primarily runs the sex club and never spends more than one night with any of his sexual partners, but he always makes sure they enjoy their time with him.

Trista Barnes shows up at The Wicked Horse, beaten and bruised to ask Jerico to help her out of a financial mess. She is claiming the favor owed to her brother. She does not understand why Jerico hates her brother, but she is desperate and will take his help any way she can get it. Jerico hires her to work at The Wicked Horse and opens her up to a world of sexual freedom.

Jerico shows Trista a world of sexual pleasure with no guilt and no regrets. As Trista becomes more liberated, Jerico becomes more possessive which has never happened to him before and he is no longer sure he can use her for his revenge against her brother.

I enjoyed this story, but I had trouble liking Jerico until after I found out why he was so hot to get revenge on Trista’s brother. Until that point, I felt he was truly just using Trista sexually and that was a problem for me with a romance hero even with the heroine enjoying her liberation. I also had a hard time believing that these two would fall in love within the month time limit. So although Jerico and Trista end well, I have enjoyed other characters written by Ms. Bennett more. I will continue on in this series based on my love of other books by this author.

Book Review: Wicked Choice by Sawyer Bennett

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

WICKED CHOICE (The Wicked Horse Vegas, #4) by Sawyer Bennett is one of the best erotic romances I have read! There are hot, steamy and erotic sex scenes throughout an amazing gender twist of a story that is strong enough to stand on its own even without the erotic sex scenes, but where would be the fun in that?

Rachel Hart is one of the best at her job and has the confidence of her teammates. She was a Winter Olympian biathlete and extreme sport junkie. She has never fallen in love and refuses to let anyone get close.

Bodie Wright is an ex-Navy SEAL who has traded in the strict regimentation of the service for the less restrictive and more lucrative job at the Jameson Group. A Nebraska farmboy, who loves his extended family, but is not really looking to settle down just yet.

After a mission together gone wrong, Rachel and Bodie cross the understood, but not written rule that team members at Jameson do not fraternize. Sure, they see each other having sex at the club, but never do team members do team members. Their one night of amazing sex turns into a pregnancy with major, life-changing decisions to be made.

Ms. Sawyer takes this situation and turns it into a very unique story by having Brodie step up and want the baby no matter how it will change his life and career, while Rachel is the one who decides to carry the baby for Bodie, but she does not want to continue in its life after the delivery.

Rachel is such a complex heroine who Bodie seems to effortlessly understand. As the erotic sex continues throughout the story so does the emotional roller coaster, tears and decisions. I loved these two characters! The secondary characters were just as realistically written and I hope to see more of them in future books.

The Wicked Horse is a sex club in Vegas which is the background for this series of erotic romances. It is frequented by several of the teammates from the Jameson Group, which is a private group of elite mercenaries for hire. The owner of the Wicked Horse used to own both, but he sold the Jameson group to his best friend. This story is the bridge book between strictly erotic romances set around the Wicked Horse and a new series planned by this author to focus more on the Jameson Group mercenaries using a romantic suspense format. Do not worry about it being the fourth book in the series because it can be read easily as a standalone and I cannot wait to go back and read the first books in this series.
