Hi, everyone!

I am very excited to once again be featuring a new Freya Barker romantic suspense book. This author’s heroes and heroines are always realistic portrayals, a little older and more seasoned by life, with an element of suspense that brings them together.

10-Code is the fourth book in the Rock Point/La Plata County FBI series. All of the books in this series are easily read as standalones, but believe me, you will want to read them all!

Book Description:

As a forty-one-year-old mother of three boys, working two jobs, Marya Berger doesn’t have the time or energy to consider a relationship. Especially after a lifetime of poor choices in the romance department. But when the disappearance of a young boy strikes a little too close to home, and a younger man she’s tried to ignore offers his help, she doesn’t stand in the way.

Single father, Dylan Barnes, the junior member of the La Plata County FBI team at thirty-three, has his focus firmly on his job and his son, Max. He’s certainly not looking to complicate his life, when he finds himself at his son’s soccer game, sitting beside the spirited brunette he can’t get out of his mind. Fate, however, appears to have different plans.

When an unspeakable crime draws the attention of the FBI, Dylan finds himself torn between his job and his instinctive need to protect Marya and her boys.

My Book Review:

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

10-Code Rock Point/La Plata County FBI Book 4 by Freya Barker is a new FBI romantic suspense which returns to Rock Point and is the fourth book in this series. While there is character crossover from the previous books in this series, it can be easily read as a standalone without confusion.

Marya Berger had her dead-beat husband walk out on her and their three boys five years ago. With the help of her mother and working two jobs, she has done her best. Between the boys, her jobs and her past poor dating choices, Marya does not have the time or energy for romance.

FBI agent Dylan Barnes is firmly focused on his career and his son. He is very lucky to have his mother and step-dad close to help with his son when his job interferes. At his son’s soccer game, Dylan is surprised when Marya shows up. He learns her middle son plays on the team and the two boys have a lot in common. This Marya is different than the buttoned up woman he buys coffee from at the book store. She is spirited and sarcastic and he finds he cannot quit thinking about her.

When a young boy the same age as both Marya and Dylan’s sons disappears, and Marya’s ex-husband shows up out of the blue demanding to see the boys, Dylan is torn between his job and his need to protect Marya and her boys.

This is a wonderful romance with two people who truly deserve each other and a HEA. The road had more than enough bumps in it between Marya’s ex-husband, Dylan’s ex-fling and the suspense plot surrounding the boys. The sex scenes are explicit and realistic as they try to just grab whatever time is available as they deal with everything going on in their jobs and lives. Ms. Barker has the characters dealing with what age to get children cell phones, on-line gaming, predator danger and codes for dangerous situations.

This is another home run from this author. Her characters are always flawed in ways everyone can relate to, the romance is hot and the suspense keeps you turning the pages to the end. Excellent book, excellent series and excellent author. I highly recommend you pick up a Freya Barker romantic suspense and get reading!

My Book Review:

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

COVERING OLLIE (On Call Book 2) by Freya Barker is an exciting romantic suspense and the second book in the On Call series. This is an emotional, suspenseful romance with Freya Barker’s signature mature H/h characters and writing that pulls you in, grabs your complete attention and makes you sad if you have to put the book down before ‘The End’. This book can easily be read as a standalone romance, but characters do crossover from the first book, “Burning for Autumn”.

Joe Benedetti has relocated with his two young sons to fill the vacant position of Chief of Police in Durango, Colorado. After the death of his wife from cancer, he wants a more manageable job and routine for himself and his boys. He is lucky to find teenager, Trinity (Trinny) across the street, who introduced herself right away for babysitting duty. He has noticed Trinny’s beautiful mother, but he does not want to get involved.

Olivia (Ollie) Rizzo moved to Durango eighteen years ago and has built a new life. As a freelance landscape architect Ollie has done well and lived quietly with her daughter. She cannot help but hear about the boys and the police chief from her daughter, but waving from a distance is the extent of her interaction.

When Special Agent Cruz Livingston arrives at Ollie’s door, her past collides with her quiet existence. Joe becomes involved immediately when he is briefed on the danger Ollie and her daughter may be in. As Joe, his officers and the FBI work to eliminate the threats to Ollie’s life, the two begin to let down their walls and become close. Will Joe be able to keep Ollie safe and grab hold of a future together?

Ollie and Joe, the kids and all of the secondary friends and family could walk off the page, they feel so real to me. Ms. Barker knows how to write about couples that have lived and have baggage, but in the end are willing to work at building a new life together. They have lived life and are not perfect physical specimens, but they are real and beautiful to their love interest. The sex is explicit, hot and sexy and always builds in a realistic way.

I have loved all of Ms. Barker’s romances and romantic suspense books. I cannot recommend this author enough especially if you like your H/h a little more mature and written with just the right amount of suspense and sex to spice up the romance. I highly recommend this book and series!

My Book Review:

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

BURNING FOR AUTUMN (On Call #1) by Freya Barker is the first romantic suspense in a new series in Susan Stoker’s Badge of Honor World focused on Police and Firefighters. I LOVE Freya Barker’s writing and was very excited to see her entering one of my favorite romance worlds. This book is smoking hot and does not disappoint!

Autumn McCoy accepted a one year work contract for a special program in a new burn unit in Durango. She is sad to leave her girlfriends behind in San Antonio, but she believes she needs to shake up her staid life. She knows she needs to get out and when she takes up the invite of a new friend to meet at The Irish, a local pub where firefighters and police hangout, she runs into an arrogant, but handsome man. Two strong personalities butt heads, but there are sparks there that Autumn is not sure she wants to explore.

Acting Chief of Police, Keith Blackfoot is sick of the politics and responsibilities of being Chief. He wants to go back to being a detective only. He takes a break for the night and runs into a feisty redhead who sets off an interest that he has never felt before. When that redhead seems to have caught the attention of a serial arsonist, he will do anything to protect her even as she fights his protectiveness at every step of the way.

Autumn and Keith are both strong, independent characters who have to learn to trust that what they have found with each other is special before an arsonist destroys their future in flames.

Once again Ms. Barker’s writing pulls me into a story and makes me believe. She breathes life into her characters and expertly twines suspense throughout the romance. I especially love her characters because they are middle age and have either been burned by love before or are career oriented and never bothered with a long-term relationship. I enjoy reading about characters with worries about folds or wrinkles from age when they enter into a new sexual relationship occasionally instead of 20 somethings with perfect everything. She makes her characters very sexual. They are older and know what they want in bed and out and it is HOT!

I highly recommend this book!

My Book Review:

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

LuLLaY: Portland ME, a Christmas Novella (Portland ME #4.5) by Freya Barker is a contemporary holiday romance novella and is the PERFECT heartwarming, sexy and HEA holiday read for the season. Even though this is part of the Portland ME series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Matteo “Matt” Savela is a bartender at the Skipper, who has watched all his friends find their perfect matches, but he does not feel it is in the cards for him. Matt is on his way home to pick up his sister. Driving across country during December can lead to unexpected snow storms and chance meetings.

Montana “Tana” Memphis Romer is driving across country with her three year old toddler, Flynn. She decided to drive across country rather than fly because Flynn has an ear infection. Tana wants to get home for Christmas and help her parents with some major decisions about their family bakery.

Tana and Flynn keep crossing paths with “Man” (Flynn’s name for Matt) along the way. When a snow storm hits, they all end up sharing a hotel suite until it blows over. Matt loves all kids and he and Flynn bond quickly. Tana is not so sure, but with all the kind things he does for them and the way he takes care of them she begins to care for Matt as much as her daughter.

With all the chance meetings and the same destinations, can fate be putting these two together for more?

Matt is the hero that every single mom would want to meet. Tana is an independent business woman and single mother. Flynn is too adorable and I could not get enough of her. These three come together, even with all the many real life problems to be solved before their HEA. The relationship comes together quickly, but it never feels forced. The sex scenes are yummy. All of the secondary characters are three dimensional and believable.

I always love Freya Barker’s characters! I want to be friends with all of them and I am always happy with their HEAs. The stories could happen anywhere and I just fall into the first scene and never want to put it down until I am done. This is another great read from this author!

About Freya:

Freya Barker loves writing about ordinary people with extraordinary stories.

Driven to make her books about ‘real’ people; with characters who are perhaps less than perfect, but just as deserving of romance, thrills and chills, and their own slice of happy.

A recipient of the RomCon “Reader’s Choice” Award for best first book, “Slim To None”, and Finalist for the Kindle Book Award with “From Dust”, Freya has not slowed down.

She continues to add to her rapidly growing collection of published novels as she spins story after story with an endless supply of bruised and dented characters, vying for attention!

Book Review: A Change of Pace by Freya Barker

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

A CHANGE OF PACE (Northern Lights #3) by Freya Barker is an absolutely wonderful and emotional romance with a mature hero and heroine in their late forties. The romance moves at a slower pace and grows to a beautiful mature love. The believable situations and struggles that occur at differing points in the story show a couple dealing with real-life struggles without the miscommunication or melodrama in other romances.

Newt Tobias is the single father of a teenage daughter who is having emotional difficulties. Newt feels the best way to help Millie is to change the pace of their current way of living. He retires early from his job with the police force and moves them both to a small cottage community.

Frederique “Freddie” Marchand had to deal with many personal tragedies all at once several years ago. It was very difficult to reclaim a sense of peace in her life, but she has it now living on her small piece of land with her therapy dog, Boulder and menagerie of rescue animals in her small hometown. She works with troubled adolescents, and does not suffer fools or bullies, so when she has a run in with a handsome man, she has never seen in town before, she puts him in his place.

When Newt discovers the therapist recommended to him for Millie is the woman he had a previous confrontation with, he puts his daughter’s welfare first. Freddie discovers that her first impressions of Newt may not be correct and he is more than willing to accept her help to help his daughter. As Newt and Millie work together to help Millie, they soon discover that they may be able to help each other, too.

I get very excited when I find a book like this. There are so few mature romances compared to all the others and when I find one this well written, it makes me very happy. Newt and Freddie are so true to life. The way that Newt and Freddie fall in love and the blossoming of Millie just make me warm all over. There are a few sex scenes that were well placed and written realistically.

Even though this is book 3 in the Northern Lights series, it is a standalone. I am looking forward to reading many more books by Ms. Barker. This is a beautiful mature romance that I highly recommend!

Thank you very much to Buoni Amici Press and Net Galley for allowing me to read this eARC in exchange for an honest review. It was definitely my pleasure!
