Feature Post and Book Reviews: Three to Ride and Two to Love by Lexi Blake

Hi, everyone!

Today I am featuring Books #1, Three to Ride, and #2, Two to Love, in a re-released and updated erotic romantic suspense series “Nights in Bliss, Colorado”. I did not read this series when originally released under the pen name Sophie Oak, but I was excited to try a “new” Lexi Blake series.

All the books in this series are centered around the small town of Bliss, Colorado which has a very open and nonjudgmental population. Bliss is the town you may end up in accidentally or run to to hide, but then you stay because you are excepted and cared for by the quirky population no matter what trouble may be following you, and you just may find the love or loves of your life.

My Book Review

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

THREE TO RIDE (Nights in Bliss. Colorado Book #1) by Lexi Blake is a dangerous, sexy, and humorous erotic romantic suspense that has plenty of characters to fall in love with and quirky small-town characters to laugh with. This series has been reissued, and each book has updates and two extra chapters. I did not read the first issue under the name Sophie Oak, but when I saw a “new” Lexi Blake series, I had to give it a try.

Rachel Swift is on the run from a date who could not take the word “no”. Because he is a police officer, no one believes her life is in danger, so she runs. Her car dies in Bliss, Colorado, a small town she discovers is filled with artists, nudists, and a lovable alien conspiracy theorist besides the normal small-town gossiping, but caring neighbors. Alpha twins, Max and Rye have grown up in Bliss and have always shared their women. Max runs the family horse farm and Rye is the town sheriff. Max discovers Rachel working at the local diner and soon both brothers are vowing to protect and love her, while she is hesitant at first about their relationship, she quickly falls for both.

This book is a solid, well written romantic suspense with a heroine in peril. The change-up comes as the hero is two alpha male twin heroes. The sex is very steamy, hot, and explicit, but the scenes do not overtake the romance, suspense, and humor. While Rachel is on the run and afraid, she begins to become more confident as she is loved and cared for not just by Max and Rye, but by the whole town. The dialogue is realistic and had me laughing out loud at times along with the antics of many of the town folks.

This is a great group of characters, the main throuple, and the entire secondary cast of inhabitants of Bliss all make you want to return. I highly recommend this fun, extra steamy, and suspenseful erotic romantic suspense. Looking forward to book #2!

My Book Review

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

TWO TO LOVE (Nights in Bliss, Colorado Book #2) by Lexi Blake is a suspenseful, sexy, and humorous erotic romantic suspense with a great cast of characters that had me laughing out loud, turning the pages to make sure the good guys win, and sweatin’ to hot and sexy throuple sex. This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone, but I suggest you read book #1 first for more fun info and backstory on all the town folk of Bliss.

Callie Sheppard loves her hometown of Bliss, but the dating pool is limited. She finally decides to treat herself to a set up by one of her best friends with two men in Dallas. After a wonderful weekend, they leave her a note that leaves her heartbroken. Nate and Zane are DEA agents and agreed to the sexual set-up for a fun night before they have to go undercover. They did not expect to fall in love.

Six years later, Zane is almost killed in the DEA operation when he is outed to the motorcycle gang. He is having a hard time recovering with PTSD and a knife slashed face and body. Nate feels obligated to help his best friend and accepts the open sheriff position in Bliss, Colorado where he is shocked to find Callie as the sheriff department admin. As both men attempt to win back Callie’s love, they are still under threat when a hit is put out on Zane from the incarcerated motorcycle gang leader.

These books are so much fun, but they also are well written romantic suspense stories. The main characters go through all the angst of a one-on-one couple, there just happen to be two heroes and one heroine, or a throuple. The men have been friends their entire lives, but they are not bi-sexual, they share Callie and are a committed threesome. The romantic suspense kept me reading, the town folk kept me entertained, and the sex scenes are smokin’ hot and steamy. The town of Bliss is full of wonderful secondary characters that make me laugh out loud as well as cheer them on as they protect those, they consider their own.

I highly recommend this exciting erotic romantic suspense, and I cannot wait to get the next book in the series.

Feature Post and Mini Book Review: Stalking Around the Christmas Tree by Jacqueline Frost

Book Description

For inn keeper Holly White, Christmas time in Mistletoe, Maine, is the ultimate holiday gift. Business at the Reindeer Games Inn is booming, her wedding to Sheriff Evan Gray is nearly here, and the annual parade is about to begin. The town is lucky to have another gift this year, with the state’s ballet company staying for several performances of The Nutcracker. But disaster strikes when Tiffany, the lead ballerina, shows up dead on a float during the parade, the Rat King’s mask nearby. Holly will have to spruce up her sleuthing skills if she wants to catch the killer before Christmas—and her wedding day.

Immediately, Holly discovers that Tiffany had more than a few secrets. She finds out that the star of the show had a super fan that no one knows anything about. And the show’s understudy slips some other intriguing information Holly’s way: not only was Tiffany secretly seeing someone romantically, but there seems to be more than one rat in this company. When Holly discovers a secret passage leading to Tiffany’s dressing room, with footprints leading out; she wonders if this is evidence of a secret lover—or a stalking killer.

With an impending snowstorm and the ballet company on the way out of town, Holly must act quickly if she wants to find the person responsible for this terrible murder. Will she be able to save Christmas—or will her investigation turn cold like the weather?

My Mini Book Review

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

STALKING AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE (A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery Book #4) by Jacqueline Frost is another entertaining and wonderful addition to the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series. Mistletoe, Maine is once again having the holiday season interrupted by murder and Holly White jumps right in to solve the case because she does not want anything delaying her Christmas Eve wedding to Sheriff Evan Grey. The cast of characters in this series continue to develop and others are added to this small group of friends, so I recommend reading this series in order of publication.

The cozy mystery plot develops into two mysteries, with Holly trying to find the person who poisoned the star ballerina in the Nutcracker which has come to town and helping her finance’s sister discover if she is being stalked or is she imagining it. Both plots have plenty of red herrings and twists that kept me guessing and both have satisfying resolutions.

I highly recommend this latest Christmas Tree mystery, and the entire series is well worth the read. This cast of characters keeps me coming back and the mysteries are seamlessly intertwined throughout.

My Book Review

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

THE LIFEBOAT ORPHANS (The Runaway Evacuees Book #2) by Ellie Curzon is an emotional roller coaster of a historical fiction novel featuring a young group of WWII orphans who form their own family and come to be known as “The Blitz Kids” to all of England. This is the second book featuring this group and I feel you should read the first book, The Lost Orphans, to fully enjoy and understand their exploits, character development, and the secondary cast of characters surrounding them in both books.

I cannot get enough of all the characters, the Blitz Kids, Lisette, Mr. Wyngate, and all their friends in both books. Ms. Curzon made me feel as though I was right there in London during the air raids and feeling the loss of friends and/or family. The kids pull at your heartstrings, and you want them to stay safe, but they all want to help their friends, neighbors, and even strangers.

When Connie, Ned, and Mr. Wyngate leave for America to get Ned the operation he needed, I was on the edge of my seat worrying about their safety from German U-boats. The tale of their crossing, the disaster, and devastating news not only has you pulling out the tissues but realizing how true this story was for many during the war.

I highly recommend both Runaway Evacuees books. They are gripping and poignant historical fiction stories of family, love, endurance, and faith during WWII.

My Mini Book Review

RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars

LAST PATIENT OF THE NIGHT (AJ Docker Thriller Book #1) by Gary Gerlacher is a fast paced action/adventure crime thriller that gives the reader a mash-up of amateur sleuth in an E.R. doctor protagonist, AJ Docker, his policeman friend and K-9 police dog, and two local detectives work the case as a police procedural all intertwined with humor as well as thrills, danger, and action.

This first book in a series introduces the main characters, AJ Docker and K-9, Banshee. The Doc has a way with the ladies (think James Bond as an E.R. doctor), is smart, talented as an Emergency Room doctor, and has a penchant to help the underdog and/or persecuted. He is also sports oriented and trained in firearms and marital arts. The secondary characters are interesting in their own ways, and the dialogue is snarky and fun. The crime thriller plot is fast-paced and kept me turning the pages. This is a thriller you pick up for escapism, action, fun, and an easy read.

I am looking forward to following Doc and Banshee in future books.

My Mini Book Review

RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars

MOONSET ON DESERT SANDS: A Witch Paranormal Murder Mystery (Murder, Tea & Crystals Book #2) by Sherri L. Dodd is an emotional mystery/YA paranormal romance mash-up and the second book in the trilogy. I feel this trilogy is best read in order due to Arista’s continued increase in paranormal powers and emotional growth, and the overall trilogy plot of her uncle seeking her elimination.

A year has passed, and Arista and her aunt are in Sedona to get away from the horror of the murder in the first book in the trilogy, Murder under Redwood Moon. This story has Arista in peril as always from her Uncle Fergus, but it also has her facing many emotionally devastating moments in her life. This installment of the trilogy has danger and death, but I felt it is more focused on the changes in Arista personally and her growth. The crime plot and Arista’s personal life are all intertwined and kept me turning the pages, but there is a slightly slow portion about a third of the way through, but it picks up and is well paced with suspense after. This is an easy-to-read book, and I feel it is geared more to the YA paranormal reader.

I look forward to reading the last book of this trilogy.

About the Author

Sherri was raised in southeast Texas. Walking barefoot most days and catching crawdads as they swam the creek beds, she had a love for all things free and natural. Her childhood ran rampant with talk of ghosts, demons, and backcountry folklore. This inspired her first short story for sale about a poisonous flower that shot toxins onto children as they smelled it. Her classmate bought it for all the change in his pocket. It was not long after that her mother packed the two of them up and headed to the central coast of California. She has ping-ponged throughout the area ever since.

Her first real step into writing was the non-fiction fitness book, Mom Looks Great – The Fitness Program for Moms published in 2005, and maintaining its accompanying blog. Now, transmuting the grief of her father’s passing, she has branched into Fiction, specifically the genre of Paranormal Thriller with generous dashes of Magick Realism! Her Murder, Tea & Crystals Trilogy released book one – Murder Under Redwood Moon – in March 2024. Book two – Moonset on Desert Sands – released in March 2025, and the final book in the series will release October 2025!

ARC Feature Post and Book Review: Two Truths and a Murder by Colleen Cambridge

Book Description

While her famous employer is happily back home at Mallowan Hall, wrestling with her Belgian detective’s dilemma on board the Orient Express, Phyllida is finding her local renown as a sleuth has put her in high demand. A distraught Vera Rollingbroke suspects her husband of infidelity and has invited Phyllida to a dinner party to observe his behavior, particularly in regard to one Genevra Blastwick.

What she does observe at the party is that Genevra craves attention, in contrast to her shy sister Ethel. Genevra introduces a game called Two Truths and a Lie, and one of her questionable statements is that she once witnessed a murder. At this bold claim, the guests react with disbelief and pepper her with questions. Genevra remains cagey, withholding details, but insists this is not her lie.

The next morning Phyllida learns poor Ethel was purposely run down by a motorcar the previous night while inexplicably walking home alone from the party. She fears Genevra may have been the target, which means someone at the party is a killer—twice over. A chilling thought. With Genevra in potential danger—and Inspector Cork proceeding ponderously as usual—Phyllida takes it upon herself to unmask the killer. With two murders to solve, she will need to grill Genevra and the guests as well as re-examine any past sudden deaths or disappearances. And if she’s smart, she’ll look twice before crossing the road . . .

My Book Review

RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars

TWO TRUTHS AND A MURDER (A Phyllida Bright Mystery Book #5) by Colleen Cambridge is another intricately plotted historical mystery in this fun and intriguing series featuring Agatha Christie’s housekeeper and friend, Phyllida Bright, who seems to have a penchant for solving murders. While you can read each book in the series as a standalone with a complete whodunit crime plot, I feel they are best read in order of publication to follow the evolution of all the recurring characters.

When Agatha and Phyillda return to Mallowan Hall after their trip to London, Phyllida is surprised by a visit from Vera Rollingbroke, who is looking for her and not Agatha. She is afraid her husband is having an affair and wishes Phyllida to investigate the matter at a coming dinner party at their manor. After dinner, Genevra Blastwick pulls everyone into a game called Two Truths and a Lie. When she takes the first turn, after her shy sister, Ethel demurs, Genevra announces she has witnessed a murder and swears this is not her lie. The guests react with disbelief, and the party soon breaks up.

The next morning Phyllida learns Ethel was purposefully run over by a motorcar.  Phyllida believes Ethel died mistaken for her sister and is asked by the Blastwick’s to look into Ethel’s murder. What she learns as she begins to investigate is that this murder may be tied to a previous death in the village, but which one? Questioning everyone at the dinner party, she begins to discover secrets and lies that someone does not want to be revealed and Phyllida soon finds herself in danger.

I thoroughly enjoy this series and find Phyllida a wonderful lead character and amateur sleuth. While she may seem prickly, she is intelligent, inquisitive, has a large heart, and is extremely loyal. I found the mystery plot intriguing and well plotted throughout to keep me turning the pages. It was twisted and when I was expecting one crime, it branched off into two crimes and mysteries for Phyllida to solve. I also enjoyed the continuing romance between Phyllida and Bradford. Both still have many secrets that can be revealed, but you know the other servants know what is going on between the two even if Phyllida refuses to believe it.

I highly recommend this compelling historical mystery addition to this endearing series.
